Some of his First Place awards include the US Open, Grand Nationals, Phoenix Champions of Champions, and the North Atlantic All Star Division. He received the Entertainer of the Year award at the USA Grand Nationals in 2001. John Lindo and his partner AnnMarie McCabe have recently cast their net further by returning to compete in the Country Western circuit in the Showcase division. John Lindo currently resides in New Jersey and is a familiar and influential presence in the New York City West Coast Swing scene

Dance Like a Pro...

We had the pleasure of attending the latest TSDC social last weekend when out of town guest John Lindo - http://www.johnlindo.com/ - was teaching a group class.

One of the highlights was after the lesson and just before he left all the ladies lined up for some WCS with John. With several ladies in line and about 15 minute to kill I found it interesting to watch how John danced with each partner. The ladies ranged in skill from beginner to pretty darn good.

What was interesting was how John always started with some pretty basic easy to follow stuff with each partner. With the beginners he kept things interesting but only led very comfortable patterns. He seemed to use the ladies own momentum as much as possible. For the more advanced ladies he really pushed the envelope and allowed them more freedom to "do their own thing"

John made every lady seemed completely as ease but at the same time he kept them right on the edge.

When John was dancing his entire attention was on his partner. Although with his size he could put his partner anywhere he wanted he seem to lead as much by body language and frame as anything else.

More leaders should learn that dancing with a partner means just that. It is not a boss & employee or parent & child type of arrangement. It is a partner thing! We may not know the moves John has but we can sure learn how to partner like him.

Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance.  Let's Dance!

Practice the easy way at our Friday and Sunday night dance. We couldn't think of a better way to reinforce those lessons!  Come early, and you can get a half-hour of whole-floor practice, while we are getting ready for the dance lesson.  After the dance, we don't mind if you hang around and practice while we clean up and close up the studio.

Thought for a day..

We all have ability. The difference is how we use it.
