Traditionally, the bride and groom will be the first to dance as their special song is played softly. Lights dimmed low create a romantic atmosphere.

As the music continues to play, the father of the bride will cut in on the groom and dance with his daughter. The groom asks the bride's mother to join him in a dance and together they grace the dance floor.

The groom's father then cuts in on the bride's father and dances with the bride himself. The bride's father will then cut in on the groom and dance with his wife.

The groom will then ask his mother to dance. Following this, the parents exchange dances with the other couple.

The best man then comes out to ask the bride to dance and the groom will dance with the maid or matron of honor. Finally, the entire wedding party, ushers and bridesmaids join in the festivities. Once the entire bridal party and their parents are on the dance floor, the other guests are invited to dance.

Dancing at Your Wedding.

Dancing at your wedding

Dancing at your wedding - This tip is not so much directed at the many dancers on our list but the many non-dancers there also.

If you, or someone you know, think they need to learn to dance for their wedding we offer some tips.

1. Start early - Just to teach a couple 4 or 5 basic patterns takes us at least 4 hours of instruction. Leaving time for practice means one each week. That equals a month for just basics.

2. Don't schedule too close to the date - Remember there are many other things that will be come very urgent as the big day approaches.

3. Make your lesson dollars count - Practice at least 3 hours for every 1 lesson hour. Practice alone when you have the time and together as much as possible.

4. Pick "your song" but be prepared to be flexible. - Most songs we are presented with are not that suitable for dancing. A Waltz may be pretty but not at Viennese Tempos.

5. Choose an easy dance - Some dances are easier than others to learn and look good. A Rumba can be easier to learn than a Waltz and look just as pretty for a first dance.

6. Don't worry about looking like Fred & Ginger - Most of your guests don't dance well & will think even the basic stuff looks great. The ones that do know how hard you've worked.

7. Plan ahead with your DJ - This is very important! Make sure your instructor has your entrance set up as well as the song length. Then make sure your DJ knows where to start & the fade out the music. It's tough when you only worked out 2 minutes of a 6 minute song and the DJ is clueless.

8. Don't just learn to dance - Your instructor should learn what moves and patterns you like then put them together in a routine that you can practice. Each pattern can be done facing a different direction. this fills 4x as much dance time.

9. Don't forget the entrance - Your first dance starts once the DJ announces you. How the groom escorts his new wife to and off the dance floor is all part of the first dance. Make this a part of your instruction.

10. Wedding Gowns - They get in the way. Be always aware of this when learning.

11. Shoes & dance floor - What kind of dance surface & shoes. This is usually not a big deal for one dance but, if thought of, there won't be a surprise.

12. What if I mess up - By learning a short routine you can minimize this possibility. If it still happens don't stop. We teach our engaged couples to sway to the music until they can catch the beat and move on.

Above all, remember that nothing else matters more that the couple at that point. No matter what happens everyone there is wishing you the very best.

Practice the easy way at our Friday and Sunday night dance. We couldn't think of a better way to reinforce those lessons!  Come early, and you can get a half-hour of whole-floor practice, while we are getting ready for the dance lesson.  After the dance, we don't mind if you hang around and practice while we clean up and close up the studio.
