Two Step Tidewater Virginia Dance Tip

Two Step Tidewater Sunday Dance News

***********************************************************************************************

Our Way of Doing Things is the Best Way!

My way:

We all believe our way of doing things is the best way. Judy & I are no exception. Both dancing and learning to dance work in the same way. Most will want to continue our way of dancing because it is comfortable. However, this may not always be best. The first step toward changing is to become receptive to change. This is always easier when we are learning rather than when we are re-learning and, the older we get the harder changing is.

We quickly found out that most good dance instructors present the same ideas in several different ways. Moves and technique explained one way and impossible to understand may be quickly learned if presented differently. We found this to be the rule rather than exception in dancing. A decent instructor will offer a different approach if a student is having problems. We have to remember that dancing is a skill. More than memory is involved.

Back to the dancers, how do we recognize when we need to change?

The first step is to never become completely satisfied with our dancing.
Next we have to pay attention to how well we are leading and following.
Does your partner struggle with moves and balance when you are dancing together but dancees well with others?
How does your dancing work with others?
Are you always crashing into others on the floor or can you smoothly navigate through a crowd?
Does your right turns and left turns work equally well?
Are you on balance at all times? Do you need to dance fast to dance well?

IF we are honest with ourselves we can gain some insight into how much our way really works.

Something to think about
1. Beginning dancer. Knows nothing.
2. Intermediate dancer. Knows everything. Too good to dance with beginners.
3. Hotshot dancer. Too good to dance with almost anyone.
4. Advanced dancer. Dances everything. Especially with beginners.
