Elements of Couple Dancing

Dance Tip of the week:

The tip(s) of the week: Elements of couple dancing

- Dance Lead - Indicating the direction that the man would like the lady to move. (tip - offer clear concise leads)

- Dance Follow - Once a lead is received, the lady continues moving in that direction until another lead is received or the pattern has ended. (tip - react quickly and move on your own)

- Character of the dance style - Lead and follow accomplished according to the timing, style, body motion and attitude dictated by the established norm. (tip - make the smooth dances smooth and the Latin dances Latin - BTW 2-step is usually considered a "smooth" dance)

- Physical ability - Being able to utilize enough balance, self control, movement and turn technique to dance without taxing either you or your partner. (tip - don't stumble through the moves making your partnercompensate)

- Social skill - Being honest enough to evaluate yourself as a person and make any needed changes. (tip - would you want to dance close with you?)

The above items will make us better dancers. But, why do many dancers only want to learn more and more patterns?
